PNG Boys and Liquit Photoshop Magic

Visiting the Mansava Village on Tsoilik Island in Papua New Guinea a brilliant photo opportunity presented itself in a split second. A group of boys sitting on a line drinking from coconuts, two boys enjoying their prize and the rest looking jealous. I anticipated this and had my camera ready, helping me get lucky enough to capture a few frames of a great moment. This is the final image featuring my post processing (where I mainly moved the light to the faces) and Liquit Photoshop magic:

png-coconut-original The image above had one major problem. The boy in front was holding a straw that cut straight through his face and eye, a major distraction as seen in the original image to the right. It was far beyond my skills in Photoshop, cloning or content aware fill could do little here as the eye needed to be “re-constructed”. Fortunately my friend Anders from Liquit is a professional Photoshop wizard and helped me out greatly. Performing a bit of magic, the straw is now nowhere to be seen and not even at 100% is there any trace of it. Here is a 100% cutout comparison of original images, no sharpening etc, before and after the magic of Anders of Liquit. Notice how the retouched version even at 100% looks completely natural, the eye is reconstructed.

If you are looking for a great Photoshop wizard, look no further than Liquit.dk. Thanks so much for the help Anders, very much appreciated and I am thrilled with the result.

  1. This is so kool, is it my imagination or is the eye at a different angle? Anyway its way better without, than with it in the image

  2. I'm blown away by that photoshop wizardry! How does one learn to do something like that (as i very much doubt I could afford those sorts of services)?

Great photo mate. The expressions on the 2 boys' faces at the back are envy (or i-wants-the-precioussssss) personified.

Yep, I'm back in your comments box Have been trying to catch up with everything and my own blogging and I think I'm getting there… for the moment!

    1. Thanks mate, glad you like it. It is a million times better now that Anders has removed the straw. How does one learn that, skill and a lot of learning by doing I would suspect 🙂 I am blown away by how it has been erased completely, even at 100% there is no evidence of this straw ever being there. Awesome!

  3. Impressive photoshop skills!

Cool shot too – I like the way you have desaturated the image – in the original i focus too much on the bright colors of the shirts but you have drawn me towards the kids faces with the processing!

    1. Thanks Steve, will have a look at your blog and thanks for the comment. I am quite pleased with the processing as well, I tend to desat everything but skin colours in these to focus attention on the person and I then use a lot of curves layers to move the light around the image.

  4. What a difference it makes, without the straw it is such a clean image that you see all the kids expressions. Amazing Photoshop skills. Great save..

  5. Flemming, nice bit of photoshop certainly, but it wouldn't be anything without the great image, very nice indeed. i'm liking your PNG stuff a lot!
